About Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

French Post-Impressionist who chronicled the cabarets, dance halls and brothels of bohemian Montmartre. His bold, economical line and flat colour (shaped by Japanese prints) revolutionised the art of the poster. Physically disabled and drawn to nightlife, he portrayed performers like La Goulue and Jane Avril with sharp empathy. He died in 1901 at just 36.
