Is Etsy or eBay cheaper for selling art?
For a typical sale, Etsy. On a $300 painting you keep about $270 on Etsy and about $256 on eBay, because eBay charges 13.6% (on the total including sales tax) against Etsy’s 6.5% plus 3% processing. The exception is an Etsy sale that comes through Offsite Ads, which adds 12–15% (up to $100).
What are Etsy’s fees for artists?
In the US: $0.20 to list for 4 months, a 6.5% transaction fee, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing. Offsite Ads add 15% (optional) or 12% (required for shops past $10,000 in a year) on sales that come from those ads, capped at $100 per order.
Does eBay have a lower fee for art?
Only for Store subscribers, who pay 12.7% up to $2,500 in most Art categories. Without a Store, art is charged the standard 13.6% up to $7,500 plus $0.40 per order.
Where should I sell original paintings online?
Etsy suits handmade, fixed-price original work and usually leaves you more per sale. eBay suits auctions and collectors of older or secondhand art. Many artists also sell direct (social media, a website) where no marketplace fee applies, and through online galleries, which typically take around 40%.
