Privacy Policy
Welcome to the Art Scanner with AI Privacy Policy ("Policy"). This Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Art Scanner with AI mobile application ("App"). Please read this Policy carefully along with our Terms and Conditions of Use.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
We collect and process the following types of information:
a) Images You Provide
When you use the App to scan artwork, you provide images either by taking a photo with your camera or selecting an image from your device's photo gallery. These images are:
- Sent to Google's Gemini AI service for analysis (see Section 3 for details).
- Saved locally on your device within the App's private storage area.
- With your consent, uploaded to and stored on Google Firebase Storage, so we can identify the artwork and improve our AI and our service. You give this consent by tapping the scan button on the first-scan screen, which states that tapping it is your agreement, and that consent then applies to your later scans in the App. If you do not consent, your images are never uploaded and remain on your device only. You can withdraw consent or request deletion of your uploaded images at any time (see Section 6).
b) Scan Results
When you scan an artwork, the AI-generated analysis results (including identified artwork title, artist name, historical information, and artistic analysis) are:
- Stored locally on your device in a local database (SQLite).
- A maximum of 50 scan results are retained on your device. When the limit is reached, the oldest scan results and their associated images are automatically deleted.
- Also recorded, together with scan metadata, in Google Firebase Firestore (see Section 1c) so we can analyze and improve the service.
c) Scan Metadata
For the purpose of improving our service, our AI accuracy, and understanding usage patterns, we record the following metadata about each scan in Google Firebase Firestore:
- Artwork title, artist, year, medium and style (as identified by the AI)
- Whether the artwork was identified, and the AI's confidence level
- The AI analysis result text
- When you have consented to upload, the Storage path of your uploaded image (see Section 1a)
- Your app language and device platform (iOS or Android), and whether the scan was your first (onboarding) scan
- An anonymous user identifier
- Timestamp of the scan
- Technical context: device model, operating system version, device locale, time zone offset and local time, app store country, app version, subscription status, whether the photo came from the camera or gallery, and how long the scan took
This metadata does NOT include any name, email, or other information that directly identifies you. Uploaded images themselves are stored in Google Firebase Storage and only when you have given consent.
c-2) Price My Artwork
When you ask the App to price your own artwork, the App sends the photo of your artwork together with the details you enter (width, height and unit, medium, surface, whether it is framed, and, if you choose to add them, your hours and material costs) and your app language to our server (Google Firebase Cloud Functions). Our server sends the photo, medium, surface and size to Google's Gemini AI service to assess the piece (see Section 3), then calculates the price with a fixed formula.
- Our server does not store the photo or the price result. Only a daily usage counter (your anonymous user identifier, the date and a count) is stored in Firebase Firestore to apply daily limits.
- The result, including the details you entered, is saved in your scan history on your device.
c-3) Value Estimates for Scanned Artworks
When the App shows an estimated value for an artwork you scanned, it sends the photo and the identified details (title, artist, year, medium, style, the AI's confidence) and your app language to our server, which asks Google's Gemini AI service with Google Search grounding for public market information.
- Our server does not store the photo or the estimate. Only a daily usage counter (your anonymous user identifier, the date and a count) is stored in Firebase Firestore.
- The estimate is saved with that scan in your history on your device.
- Masterpiece price tags shown for famous artworks in the App's gallery come from data built into the App and do not send anything to us.
c-4) Notifications
The App can send an occasional "Artist of the Day" notification. To do this we store, in Firebase Firestore under your anonymous user identifier, your Firebase Cloud Messaging device token, platform, time zone offset, app language, whether you have opted in, and when you last scanned. Notifications contain only the artist's name. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
c-5) First-Scan Record
To grant the free first scan once per installation, we store a record keyed by your Firebase Installation ID with the time it was used and your platform.
d) Anonymous Authentication
The App uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication to create a random, anonymous user identifier (UID). This identifier:
- Does NOT require you to create an account, provide an email, phone number, or any personal information.
- Is used to associate scan metadata, uploaded images, daily usage counters, notification settings, and subscription status and purchase records with your installation.
- Cannot be used to identify you personally.
e) App Usage Analytics
We use Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data, including:
- App open events
- Feature usage (e.g., scan started, scan completed, image source selected, artwork pricing submitted and shown, value estimate requested, which scan type you chose)
- For pricing, these events record the medium, surface, whether framed, a size range, the skill level and the price range shown, but not your photo
- Subscription page views and purchase events
- Error events (e.g., scan failures)
This data is collected in aggregate form and does not personally identify you. It helps us understand how users interact with the App so we can improve the experience.
f) Advertising Data
The App shows rewarded video ads (for example, "watch an ad to scan again") through Google AdMob. To serve these ads, Google's advertising services may collect and process device and usage information, including advertising identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA on iOS and the Advertising ID on Android).
- On first launch (and when required), we present Google's consent form (Google User Messaging Platform, "UMP") and, on iOS, Apple's App Tracking Transparency ("ATT") prompt.
- Your choices there determine whether the ads you see are personalized or non-personalized, and whether the advertising identifier is used for tracking.
- Google's collection and use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and Google's Advertising policies.
g) Crash and Diagnostic Data
We use Google Firebase Crashlytics to detect and fix crashes and errors. When the App crashes or encounters an error, Crashlytics collects diagnostic information such as the error/stack trace, device model, operating system version, and app state at the time. This information is used only to diagnose and fix problems.
h) Feedback You Provide
If you choose to send us feedback from within the App, we collect the feedback message, your star rating, and the email address you enter, and store them in Google Firebase Firestore. Your email is used solely to reply to your feedback. Providing feedback is entirely optional.
i) Purchase Information
If you subscribe to our premium service, payment processing is handled entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play Store. We do NOT directly collect, process, or store your payment information (such as credit card numbers). To verify and restore your subscription we store, under your anonymous user identifier, your subscription status, the product you bought, and the store's transaction identifier or purchase token with its transaction history.
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use the information collected for the following purposes:
- To provide the core service: analyzing artwork images using AI, pricing your own artwork, estimating artwork values, and displaying results to you.
